Popular Slovak TV Show
"Zem Spieva" Comes to America
The best of Slovak traditional folklore traveled across the Atlantic to visit North America!
"Zem Spieva," "The Land Sings," is a popular Slovak TV series/competition. When the organizers of a tour featuring the show's winners reached out to Slovak-American Cultural Center to help with promotion, SACC enthusiastically provided its expertise.
The winners of the first two seasons, Folklórny Súbor Urpín and the accordion player Martin Repáň, toured the United States and Canada in October 2019 to present Slovak folklore to their countrymen residing in North America.
The tour included a stop in New York City, with a performance on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at St. John Nepomucene Church, a historical Slovak church located in the heart of Manhattan. The performance, attended by many Slovak-American Cultural Center members, provided a wonderful evening of entertainment and beauty. The audience enjoyed breathtaking, traditional, and authentic Slovak dances and music from the very heart of Europe performed by the best of the exceedingly successful TV show "The Land Sings"!
S-ACC and its members are featured in the tour documentary that ran on Slovak TV the following year.
